The German branch of MartinBauer has again had its business practices assessed and rewarded by global business sustainability assessor EcoVadis. After undergoing rigorous testing, MartinBauer Germany was awarded the gold medal, demonstrating that when it comes to sustainability it is among the top five percent of companies in its industry worldwide.
Getting better all the time
With an overall score of 70 points, MartinBauer Germany improved on last year’s performance by four points. This positive trend is very important to the company as it cares about much more than winning awards: “We want to work with EcoVadis to improve our sustainability endeavors from year to year and learn how to be even better,” says Sebastian Sieben, CEO of the MartinBauer European Hub.
EcoVadis medals are awarded to companies that gain enough points for their responsible business practices in the categories Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Sustainable Procurement, and Ethics. MartinBauer Germany scored particularly well in the category Environment, with 80 points, which is well above the industry average. Among other things, this category assesses energy efficiency, resource use, and wastewater treatment.
There was room for improvement in the Ethics category. EcoVadis pointed out that this is due to a need for better documentation rather than to any deficiency in actual practice at the company.
A globally recognized standard
The sustainability assessment conducted by EcoVadis is renowned across the globe. More than 100,000 companies worldwide use the EcoVadis methodology to assess and continually improve their sustainability action in accordance with the recommendations. The EcoVadis methodology incorporates international CSR standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative, the United Nations Global Compact, and ISO 26000.
