May 21 is a very special day for all tea lovers. The United Nations has declared it International Tea Day. We show the great variety with which teas, herbal and fruit teas enrich the diet with pleasure and bring joy into life every day with their wonderful colors.
What is tea?
Next to water, tea is the most popular beverage in the world. According to legend, tea originated in China and spread to Europe via Dutch colonies in the 1600s. The traditional tea plant Camellia sinensis is used to make the classic green and black teas, as well as white tea. In addition, and in many countries equal in consumption, however, there are numerous other plants from which wonderful infusions are obtained. When thinking of tea today, there are no limits to the different taste profiles: from refreshing to fruity or sweet, no consumer wish remains unfulfilled.
Tea – more versatile than any other beverage!
Tea is now consumed all over the world and has developed into a modern lifestyle drink – whether classically hot, cold brewed, as a “home-made” iced tea or as a trendy bubble tea. As an increasingly growing segment, cold brew tea has established itself on supermarket shelves in recent years to fill the gap between pure mineral water and pre-packaged iced teas. With its simple preparation method, this form of tea in a bag is also convincing on-the-go – and is therefore ideally suited for health-conscious, active consumers.
Tea and its many facets
Not least, the image of tea has changed. Consumers are paying increasingly more attention to how they can do good for themselves and their bodies – especially when it comes to nutrition. This and the renewed focus on the functional benefits of herbal ingredients are making tea more and more attractive – whether for strengthening the immune system, supporting digestion or providing an energy boost. The latter in particular is a popular “side effect”: the tein it contains stimulates the nervous system, causing fatigue to evaporate and concentration to improve.
Tea is a reason to celebrate
So raise the tea cups and glasses – let’s toast together to “International Tea Day” – because also in May we can only warmly recommend any kind of tea – even if it’s a cold brew!
